Samsung Galaxy SII GPS problem fix. No root needed.

How to fix GPS problem for some of you.

About the phone:
Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
Android 2.3.3 XWKE7

Coming back to Netherlands with my brand new phone was a bit of a pain when I realised that my GPS can not lock a signal. Despite seeing up to 11 satellites. Well, It was performing very well straight after a purchase in UK so there must have been something wrong with "Dutch" satellites.... ;)

2h of googling and no fix... I've tried SEVERAL "GPS fix" apps... I do not have a root so they usually don't work :(
OK, my own memory reminded me that this problem appeared just after arriving back home so I must have done something REALLY bad to my phone then, and that's how it came to me... I did move my microSD card from previous phone (Old G1) to the new one. It did contain lots of settings for... Android 2.1... that is not healthy.

  • Switch off the phone, take battery out, remove microSD card, power on again.
  • Perform factory data reset (It will delete anything on your phone so do a backup before loosing pictures of you girl/boy friends). Settings->Privacy->Factory data reset, make sure to check "Format USB storage" and press reset phone.
  • Your phone will reboot once or twice and voila... GPS is caching a lock withing 5-10sec.

So, Did I try to format microSD card and check if GPS still works... No, I did not (I do not have a microSD card reader). If you do try yourself - let me know.

CompMS - Mass spectrometry calculator

A new tool crystallized in my projects tab. It helps in interpretation of MS signals of metal complexes. Enjoy.
